Haakon Lang-Ree, Executive Director
With two degrees from Stanford University, Haakon joined Achieve Tahoe in 1992 as a volunteer while working in Human Resource Management. He has an innate knack for bringing the staff and volunteers together as a team and leading them with professionalism and enthusiasm. Haakon enjoys sharing his love of sports with people of all abilities.

Cindy Smith, Administrative Director
Cindy is a graduate of University of California at Davis (BS Human Development and Elementary Teaching Credential) with experience in teaching and office management, Cindy joined Achieve Tahoe in 1991. Her focus at Achieve Tahoe is all things administrative, and then some! Her organizational skills, energy and positive customer service keep the organization running smoothly.

Jason Smith, Chief Development Officer
Jason’s passion for advocacy and fundraising, in support of people with disabilities, stems from his unshakeable love and deep connection with his brother Christopher (born with Down syndrome). Before joining the team of Achieve Tahoe, Jason raised nearly 10 million dollars for funding programs and services to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities and their families. As a musician and event producer, Jason performed in national telethons and concerts on the Las Vegas strip to raise awareness and funding. Jason is proud to join the excellent team and Board of Directors of Achieve Tahoe and is committed to matching our program ambitions, dollar for dollar.

Michael Hunter, Program Director
Michael is responsible for day-to-day operations of all our programs. With a degree in Recreation Therapy from Lehman College, The Bronx, NY, Michael began as in intern with Achieve Tahoe in 2007. He puts his degree and certifications from the American Canoe Association and the Professional Ski Instructors of America to use by managing all of our program delivery throughout the year. Michael is always looking to improve his ability to share his passion for outdoor adventure sports with our diverse team of volunteers and participants.

Marina Gardiner, Guest Services Coordinator
Marina leads our team of friendly reservationists. She also coordinates group scheduling and outreach. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley and dual Master’s degree in Art History, Theory and Criticism and Art Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was born and raised in Squaw Valley and learned to mono-ski with Achieve Tahoe. As an alumnus of Achieve Tahoe, she is excited to assist other participants in experiencing the freedom and joy of outdoor recreation in Tahoe.

Allison Ibsen, Program Coordinator
After earning her degree in Recreation Therapy from California State University, Chico, Allison joined us as an intern in 2012. She is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and worked as a snowsports instructor before joining us as Program Coordinator in 2015. Allison is responsible for supervising our interns, along with coordinating and implementing our programs year-round. Her enthusiastic, hardworking, fun-loving attitude is a welcome addition to our staff. Originally a Solvang native, she has truly embraced the wonderful Tahoe community as her own.

Bill "Bones" Bowness, Lead Trainer
Bill coordinates all aspects of our instructor training and continuing education programs. He also manages our competition program. With a degree in Physical Education-Adaptive PE from California State University, Chico, Bill is a pioneer in both adaptive snow and water skiing, earning many top honors representing the United States at the international level. Not only a fierce competitor, Bill is at the forefront in teaching adaptive snowsports and waterskiing. His wealth of knowledge and experience are matched only by his ability to impart his wisdom on students of all abilities.
