Haakon Lang-Ree, Executive Director

With two degrees from Stanford University, Haakon joined Achieve Tahoe in 1992 as a volunteer while working in Human Resource Management. He has an innate knack for bringing the staff and volunteers together as a team and leading them with professionalism and enthusiasm. Haakon enjoys sharing his love of sports with people of all abilities.

Cindy Smith, Administrative Director 

Cindy is a graduate of University of California at Davis (BS Human Development and Elementary Teaching Credential) with experience in teaching and office management, Cindy joined Achieve Tahoe in 1991. Her focus at Achieve Tahoe is all things administrative, and then some! Her organizational skills, energy and positive customer service keep the organization running smoothly.

Michael Hunter, Program Director 

Michael is responsible for day-to-day operations of all our programs. With a degree in Recreation Therapy from Lehman College, The Bronx, NY, Michael began as in intern with Achieve Tahoe in 2007. He puts his degree and certifications from the American Canoe Association and the Professional Ski Instructors of America to use by managing all of our program delivery throughout the year. Michael is always looking to improve his ability to share his passion for outdoor adventure sports with our diverse team of volunteers and participants.

Deidre Kennelly, Development Director

Deidre brings nearly 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector with a focus on fundraising, communication and programs. Originally from Sacramento and a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, Deidre and is an avid outdoor explorer and accomplished water skier. She thrives at sharing the impact of Achieve Tahoe programs and encouraging others to support our cause.

Marina Gardiner, Guest Services Manager

Marina leads our team of friendly reservationists. She also coordinates group scheduling and outreach. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley and dual Master’s degree in Art History, Theory and Criticism and Art Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was born and raised in Squaw Valley and learned to mono-ski with Achieve Tahoe. As an alumnus of Achieve Tahoe, she is excited to assist other participants in experiencing the freedom and joy of outdoor recreation in Tahoe.

Camille Cauchois, Program Manager

Camille joined us as an intern in 2014 after deciding that she wanted to spend her time outside with people who share her passion. She received her degree in Geography from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN in 2013, but quickly decided that the mountains were calling her. She spent 3 seasons working for Achieve Tahoe in the winter while spending the summers as a guide in McCarthy, Alaska. She is now with us year-round as the Program Manager and oversees fundraising events, program delivery, volunteers, digitial communications and teaches lessons whenever possible!

Keegan Buffington, Program Supervisor

Keegan followed his passions for the outdoors, teaching others and life-long learning to Achieve Tahoe as an intern in 2015. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Chemistry and a focus on materials science and sculptural metal casting. Keegan maintains all of the program equipment and supports the instruction team on equipment fitting, lesson delivery and instructor training. Whether Keegan is working or playing he can be found at the mountain, on the lake or tinkering with something.

Micah Yaldezian, Program Supervisor

Micah is a graduate of California State University, Chico with a BA in Kinesiology and a focus in adaptive physical activity.  Micah joined Achieve Tahoe as an intern in 2015-2016.  His focuses at Achieve Tahoe are in training new volunteers, fundraising, outreach, and teaching lessons.  His passion for skiing and adaptive sports is second only to his passion for sharing them with others and making every day the “best day ever!”

Bill "Bones" Bowness, Lead Trainer

Bill coordinates all aspects of our instructor training and continuing education programs. He also manages our competition program. With a degree in Physical Education-Adaptive PE  from California State University, Chico, Bill is a pioneer in both adaptive snow and water skiing, earning many top honors representing the United States at the international level. Not only a fierce competitor, Bill is at the forefront in teaching adaptive snowsports and waterskiing. His wealth of knowledge and experience are matched only by his ability to impart his wisdom on students of all abilities.

Hailey Nunn & Maggie Stanton, Reservations 

Hailey and Maggie are the friendly and helpful voices you hear when you call our Adaptive Sports Center. They will happily take your reservation and greet you when you arrive for your lesson. They are also instructors, so you may also catch them on the hill!
