Haakon Lang-Ree, Executive Director
With two degrees from Stanford University, Haakon joined Achieve Tahoe in 1992 as a volunteer while working in Human Resource Management. He has an innate knack for bringing the staff and volunteers together as a team and leading them with professionalism and enthusiasm. Haakon enjoys sharing his love of sports with people of all abilities.

Cindy Smith, Administrative Director
Cindy is a graduate of University of California at Davis (BS Human Development and Elementary Teaching Credential) with experience in teaching and office management, Cindy joined Achieve Tahoe in 1991. Her focus at Achieve Tahoe is all things administrative, and then some! Her organizational skills, energy and positive customer service keep the organization running smoothly.

Michael Hunter, Program Director
Michael is responsible for day-to-day operations of all our programs. With a degree in Recreation Therapy from Lehman College, The Bronx, NY, Michael began as in intern with Achieve Tahoe in 2007. He puts his degree and certifications from the American Canoe Association and the Professional Ski Instructors of America to use by managing all of our program delivery throughout the year. Michael is always looking to improve his ability to share his passion for outdoor adventure sports with our diverse team of volunteers and participants.

Deidre Kennelly, Development Director
Deidre brings nearly 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector with a focus on fundraising, communications and programs. Originally from Sacramento and a graduate of California State University, Sacramento, Deidre and is an outdoor enthusiast who loves to take advantage of the beautiful Tahoe area. She thrives on sharing the impact of Achieve Tahoe programs and encouraging others to support our cause.

Marina Gardiner, Guest Services Manager
Marina leads our team of friendly reservationists. She also coordinates group scheduling and outreach. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley and dual Master’s degree in Art History, Theory and Criticism and Art Administration and Policy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was born and raised in Squaw Valley and learned to mono-ski with Achieve Tahoe. As an alumnus of Achieve Tahoe, she is excited to assist other participants in experiencing the freedom and joy of outdoor recreation in Tahoe.

Camille Cauchois, Program Manager
Camille joined us as an intern in 2014 after deciding that she wanted to spend her time outside with people who share her passion. She received her degree in Geography from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN in 2013, but quickly decided that the mountains were calling her. She spent 3 seasons working for Achieve Tahoe in the winter while spending the summers as a guide in McCarthy, Alaska. She is now with us year-round as the Program Manager and oversees program delivery, volunteers, digitial communications and teaches lessons whenever possible!

Kimberly Whitington, Events and Communications Coordinator
Kimberly was introduced to Achieve Tahoe in 2012. She managed Choices, a local nonprofit serving adults with developmental disabilities. Choices clients participated in Achieve Tahoe programs regularly, providing Kimberly an opportunity to build a love for the life-changing experiences our programs offer. Kimberly joined our team in January of 2020 with nearly ten years of experience serving people with disabilities. Kimberly studied Outdoor Recreation Leadership at Colorado Mountain College in Leadville, Colorado. Kimberly is our Events and Communication Coordinator assisting in event planning, marketing, and outreach.

Scott Behrens, Program Supervisor
Scott was first attracted to Achieve Tahoe to support his son Bryan in adaptive skiing. After spending several seasons as the father of a participant, Scott joined the team as a snow sports instructor in 2016. With degrees from Dartmouth College and the University of Chicago, Scott’s unrealized professorial ambitions are now directed towards coaching participants, educating volunteers, and coordinating outreach efforts. Having seen the positive impact of outdoor activities on his son Bryan, Scott has dedicated himself to sharing the same with others.
